Abstract
451,440. Multitubular steam boilers. BRITISH HEATING INDUSTRIES, Ltd., and WIGNALL, N., Beehive Works, Bolton. March 2, 1935, No. 6644. [Class 123 (ii)] [See also Group XII] In a boiler having a crescent-shaped portion extending above a furnace c, the grate is water-cooled and preferably formed V-shape with water tubes m connected to upper and lower headers n, k. The headers n may be connected to the crescent shaped part of the boiler at their front ends and the header k is connected to the bottom of the cylindrical portion of the boiler by the pipe l. Gases from the furnace c pass through one or more flues f to a brick lined combustion chamber g and thence through smoke tubes i to the smoke box h. When applied to a double-ended boiler having a crescent shaped portion at each end above a furnace, the gases pass through internal flues and combustion chambers to nests of smoke tubes and smoke boxes at each end of the boiler.
