Fire - bridges; combustion chambers, secondary; baffles. - Air from the ash-pit of a boiler furnace enters a chamber D in the fire - bridge C through an opening d in the front wall and after passing around a depending baffle D<1> extending from front to rear of the chamber D escapes through a smaller opening d<1> in the rear wall to a combustion chamber E formed by an arch built of bricks e and resting on the fire-bridge and inverted arch e<1>. A baffle F beyond the combustion chamber divides the gases and directs them against the top and bottom of the boiler flue.
