Abstract
261,259. Silberstein, I. April 19, 1926. Resistance coatings.-A rod of non-conducting material is coated with badly-conducting material such as carbon, the ends being covered with metal, and the whole is enclosed in a non-conducting casing with metal caps with which the metal coatings on the ends of the rods make contact. In the arrangement shown the rod 1 is tapered at the ends which fit into depressions 10 in metal caps 8 on a cardboard or like tube 7, and are then soldered. The middle portion 5 of the rod 1 is coated with carbon and a protective layer 6 of insulating material. Instead of a coating of carbon one or more lines may be drawn on the rod between the copper ends which are ground smooth to prevent the carbon spreading thereon. In a modification metal caps are pressed on to the metal-covered ends of the rod and secured to the metal ends of the casing by punching.
