Abstract
257,262. Liban, T. Aug. 18, 1925, [Convention date]. Fluxes.-In a method of applying zinc coatings to iron articles by dipping the latter into a molten zinc bath which may contain aluminium, a molten layer of a mixture of fluorine compounds and zinc chloride or zinc chloride and ammonium chloride is provided on the top of the zinc bath and the articles in a wet state are passed through the layer into the bath. In an example in which the zinc bath contains 1.5 per cent of aluminium, the layer comprises a mixture of 17 parts of zinc chloride, 2.5 parts of ammonium chloride and 1 part of sodium aluminium fluoride. Organic fluorides such as fluorbenzol or double salts of fluorine may be used as the fluorinic compound.
