Abstract

281,357. Liban, T. July 20, 1926. Coating by dipping; cleaning; fixes.-Zinc or tin coatings are applied to iron articles by dipping them into a molten bath or into a solution of a mixture of fluorine compounds and zinc chloride or zinc ammonium chloride, and then into the molten metal, which may contain a small proportion of aluminium. In an example, a mixture of 0.5-6 per cent of potassium fluoride, 10-20 per cent of ammonium chloride and 74- 89.5 per cent of zinc chloride is used. When the metal bath comprises a layer of lead floating on a layer of zinc, the molten bath or solution of salts is used so that it forms a protective layer through which the articles are passed before passing through the lead and zinc layers. For tin coating tallow, resin or palm oil may be added to the fluorine compounds. When feeding and discharging rollers are provided, these rollers may be cleaned by a flux containing fluorine compounds, and, prior to coating, the articles may be treated in an acid or water bath containing fluorine compounds. During zinc coating a zinc aluminium alloy containing a small proportion of aluminium may be added to the molten metal. Specification 257,262 is referred to.
