Abstract

257,023. Harris, H. May 20, 1925. Dry processes of refining tin. - Arsenic is removed from arsenical tin by treating the tin with a reagent consisting of or comprising caustic alkali, preferably caustic soda, or materials such as sodium carbonate or stannate which will yield alkali oxide, with or without the addition of a modifying agent which may be sodium chloride, a retarding agent which may be alkali carbonate or a metallic oxide, and an oxidizing agent which may be sodium nitrate. The tin may be treated in a molten state with the reagent in solid or molten state, for example by the means described in Specifications 142,398 and 199,660.
