Abstract

254,874. McCallum, J'., and Anderson, H. P. H. Aug. 7,1925. Steam, returning to boiler.-To conserve the neat within a power plant comprising a boiler 1 an engine 3 and means for returning the exhaust to the boiler, the exhaust is led into a relatively small receiver 5, such as a length of pipe of small diameter, in which it is compressed by the incoming exhaust and cooled by water or other medium supplied to a jacket 6 in accordance with the pressure of the exhaust, the resulting mixture of steam and water being fed to the boiler by a pump 8 having cylinder capacity less than the capacity of the receiver. The exhaust may be forced into the receiver by a pump driven by an auxiliary engine, the exhaust from which also passes into the receiver.
