Abstract

1,129,371. Utilizing solar heat. CAMPBELL GIFFORD & MORTON Ltd. 28 Dec., 1965 [5 Jan., 1965], No. 417/65. Heading F4U. [Also in Division F1] A pressurized fluid circulation system 15, through which a low boiling point fluid such as sulphur dioxide or a polyhalogenated paraffin flows comprises a solar boiler 14, in the form of a hollow sheet steel roofing sheet or tile (see Fig. 3, not shown) a multi-cylinder free piston compressor 16 (see Division F1) and a condenser 42. Vapour from the solar boiler 14 expands to operate the free piston compressor, part of the energy output of which is used to recompress the vapour in cylinder 21A before it is fed to the condenser 42, the remainder of the output being used to compress air in cylinders 21B to be fed to compressed air receiver 47. The compressed air from receiver 47 is utilized by the injector 48 of compressed air lift pump 49 to raise water from bore hole 50 to supply tank 51. The condenser 42 may draw its cooling water from tank 51 by thermo siphon action through pipes 52.
