Abstract

496,925. Motor power plant. BAUER, G. May 13, 1938, No. 14326. [Class 110 (iii)] A marine steam power plant shown in plan and rear end view in Figs. 2 and 3 comprises a three-cylinder reciprocating engine, with Klug valve-gear 23, 24, 25 and with the highpressure cylinder 2 at the front end and the lowpressure cylinder 4 at the rear end with the steam from the high-pressure cylinder reheated in a counterflow heat-exchanger 27 by the live steam from the boiler on its way to high-pressure cylinder, and an exhaust turbine 5 which lies partly behind and partly at the side of the low-pressure cylinder 4 with its reduction gearing 29 behind the engine and which is directly mounted on the condenser 7 this latter lying beside the engine but being supported independently of the cylinder-supporting standards 13, 14, 15. The re-heater 27 is on the same side of the engine as the condenser 7. A compact arrangement without lengthy steam pipes is obtained and the cylin. der-vibration is not transmitted to the turbine. The condenser has channel beams 10 by which it is mounted on supports 11 but the condenser is free to expand downwardly. An oil-separator 28 is included in the conduit 8 leading to the turbine.
