Cylinders, construction of, arrangement of ports in, liners for, and cooling.-A cylinder for a double acting two-stroke-cycle engine comprises an intermediate part C having inlet and exhaust ports c<4>, c<5> for the scavenging air and two liners D. The part C is supported on a flange c<3> in supporting member A containing water-cooled inlet and exhaust passages a<1>, a<2> and mounted on standards B. The liners D have a sliding connection with the part C and are clamped between tubular water jackets E and covers G which are fixed by bolts F which may pass from cover to cover.
