Automatic exchange systems.-Instead of driving all the interrupters in an office by a single motor, separate small induction or synchronous motors 15, 16 are provided for small groups of interrupters and are driven by single or polyphase currents of one or more frequencies supplied by a motor generator set 1, 3, the speed of which is kept constant by a governor and current for which is derived for example from the exchange battery. This allows groups of interrupters to be driven only when necessary. In cases where it is necessary for different groups to run at different speeds the motors may all be of one type while the generator supplies different frequencies from slip rings 11, 13, or a single frequency may be supplied, the motors of the different groups being differently wound.
