Abstract

320,889. Beatty, W. E., (Bell Telephone Laboratories, Inc.). July 21, 1928. Constant-speed control systems. - An A.C. motor the speed of which depends on the frequency of current supplied to its windings is held at constant speed by arranging so that if either the rotor winding or the stator winding receives current of variable frequency, the other winding receives current varying similarly, the sum or difference of frequency remaining unchanged. In the arrangement shown in the drawing a motor 19 has its rotor fed from a variable frequency source 13 which also feeds the rotor of a generator 14 driven at constant speed and having its stator connected to feed the stator of the motor 19, the direction in which the generator is driven being the same as the direction of rotation of the magnetic field in the rotor. Additional motors 20, 21 may be connected to the first so that all run at the same speed. The motors may be used to drive cameras and sound recorders in the production of sound-films.
