Maintaining proportional speeds.-In a motor control system in which a follower motor 2 is regulated by a synchronous dynamometer-type regulator 3 supplied with alternating current at a frequency proportional to the speed of the master motor 1, the current for the regulator is obtained through slip-rings 11 fed from tappings on the armature winding of the master motor. The armature 7 of the regulator is driven by a belt 5 and cone pulley 4 driven by the motor 2. The field magnet system 8 is connected to a device for controlling the speed of the motor 2, such as a rheostat. When two or more followers are to be regulated the motors 3 may be connected in parallel or series. In the former arrangement the leads to the regulating motors are in parallel with the leads from the slip-rings on the master motor and in the series arrangement the first motor 3 is connected directly to slip rings on the master motor, the other regulating motors being fed from slip-rings on the preceding follower. A certain amount of shunt field speed regulation may be used on the master motor. Specifications 181,619, 210,229, 216,871, and 265,995 are referred to.
