Abstract

462,524. Automatic control systems. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Oct. 1, 1936, No. 26668. Convention date, Oct. 1, 1935. [Class 38 (iv)] Electromotive force.-An arrangement for regulating the voltage of a machine having a separate exciter comprises a core having windings supplied respectively with A.C. from the machine output and from the armature of the exciter to produce in a further winding on the core a current which is supplied to an auxiliary winding on the exciter through a rectifier. The exciter 2 is provided, in addition to its normal field winding 13, with an auxiliary boosting field winding a and an auxiliary bucking field winding b these windings being fed respectively through rectifiers from the windings g, h of transformers 3, 4 having primaries e, f, supplied with A.C. obtained from the exciter armature through slip rings, and primaries c, d supplied with A.C. proportional to the line voltage 11. The windings e, c are opposed, the winding e being larger, and the windings f, d are additive, the winding d being larger. When the voltage of the line 11 drops, the current supplied to the winding a increases and that supplied to the winding b reduces to cause restoration, the reverse action occurring on a rise of voltage. In a modification for use on a D.C. system, an alternating current proportional to line voltage is obtained from an auxiliary alternator excited by the line voltage.
