Controlling motors on constant-current supply; varying field.-The motor armature 1 connected to a constantcurrent supply has a fieldwinding 2 connected across a series resistance 12, an opposing field-winding 13 excited in proportion to the voltage across the armature, and an opposing field-winding 14 controlled by a vibratory relay responsive to the armature voltage. In a modification one opposing field-winding is excited by a coupled generator which has its field automatically regulated in accordance with the voltage across the motor armature, for example in the manner described in Specification 26646/13. [Class 38 (iv), Electric supply end transmission systems &c.] . The object is to maintain approximately constant armature voltage so that the speed will vary inversely with the load, as may be desirable in the operation of capstans.
