Abstract

161,755. British Thomson - Houston Co., Ltd., (General Electric Co.). Feb. 4, 1920. Exciting.-In a voltage or current regulating system of the kind in which a reversible booster is connected in series with an exciter, one terminal of the booster field is connected to the intermediate point of a battery or resistance connected across the exciter terminals, and the other terminal of the booster field is connected to a point between the armatures of two motors connected in series across the exciter, and a vibrating regulator is provided for continuously varying the direction of energization of the booster field. The armature 8 of a booster 11 is connected in series with an exciter 5 and the field winding 4 of a generator 1. The field winding 10 of the booster 11 is connected to the intermediate point 18 of a battery 7 and to the intermediate point 19 of two series-connected motors 12, 13. The resistance of the field winding 16 of the motor 12 is less than that of the field winding 17 of the motor 13. The winding 17 is adapted to be short-circuited by a vibrating regulator 20 to vary the potential of the point 19 and consequently the direction of energization of the booster field 10.
