Abstract

253,151. Chappuis, C. June 8, 1925, [Convention date]. Boiler furnaces; combustion chambers, secondary; baffles; air, supplying.-A furnace supplied with forced draught comprises a charging column 1 disposed above the front part of the mechanical grate 6 and two combustion chambers 3, 4 in the first of which imperfect mixture of the gases with preheated air takes place, admixture with further preheated air and complete combustion taking place in the second combustion chamber 4 which is covered by a conducting arch 19. Air preheated in the jacket 8 is admitted to the top of the charging column 1 and the products of distillation from this column are drawn through the layer of incandescent fuel 10 on the grate 6. Further air preheated in a jacket 7 is admitted through an aperture 9 which is arranged immediately below the roof of the chamber 3. The chamber 4 is made of sufficient size to obtain complete combustion and is provided with baffles, while the roof 19 is corrugated to increase the radiating surface. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a modification applied to a locomotive boiler in which the fuel is fed directly to the grate, which is extended outwards from the furnace. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
