Bomb - dropping. - Hooks d, Fig. 1, are operated selectively by two different throw levers 94, 95 connected to the same link 92, or by a cam 61 on a chain 62 driven through gearing by another chain 4 actuated by a handle 1. The cam 61 deflects levers 41 on shafts 42 provided with cams m acting on the hooks d. The link 92 is connected to cranks @91 on spindles provided with cams 44 working in forked arms 49 on the spindles 42. The cams 44 can occupy three positions, one the locking position, another obtained by the handle 94 for leaving the hooks free to be operated by the chain mechanism, and a third obtained by the lever 95 for directly operating all the hooks simultaneously. The gear ratios of the chain mechanism are so designed that the cam 61 releases one hook for each revolution of the handle 1. A maltese cross 6 is operated one step by a finger on the shaft 2 of the handle 1 at each revolution of the handle and carries a dial which indicates the condition of the dropping hooks. A locking device may be provided to lock the shaft at each revolution. The chain 4 is mounted on a pinion 3 on the shaft 2 and on a pinion 24 on a shaft 23. Fig. 5. This shaft is slidably journaled in a ball-and-socket joint 22 and is detachably con. nected by a ball-headed key 25 to a socket 60 on a spindle 60<a> geared through bevel pinions to the shaft of a pinion 63 driving the chain 62. Universal joints are interposed at c. The key 25 can be pulled out of its socket 60 by means of a knob 26 and can be held out by a catch 30 as shown in Fig. 5. A collar 27 on the shaft 23 then fits into a constriction 28 in the surrounding sleeve 21. The catch 30 springs up if the knob 26 is pulled out a little; a spring 32 then returns the key into its socket 60 when the knob 26 is let go. The apparatus 84 is secured to an aircraft 97 by means of a transverse bolt 80, Fig. 7, with a screw 82 at one end locked by a cotter 83.
