Thermionic modulating systems. - A wireless transmitter is so arranged that the modulation during marking is different from that during spacing. The variation in modulation many be a variation in the degree of frequency of modulation or the wavelength may be varied from marking to spacing. Fig. 1 shows a control oscillator S and a main transmitter H in the grid circuit of which are chokes D1, D2 and a modulating device between terminals K, G. A transformer Tr supplies the modulating voltage and the key T is arranged to short-circuit resistance R2 to vary the degree of modulation. In modifications the key is arranged to short-circuit the transformer thus removing the modulation or to short-circuit one or other of two series connected transformers which are supplied with different frequencies so that the modulation frequency for marking is different from that during spacing.
