Modulating systems.-In short-wave telephony and the like the amplitude of the, carrier wave is reduced to be of the same order as the average sideband amplitude formed by the modulation of the transmitter. The Figure show a balanced type of modulator in which an impedance circuit 11 is inserted in one of the grid circuits and tuned to the carrier frequency, to produce sufficient unbalance for the carrier to be transmitted at the desired amplitude. Alternatively, filter circuits for separating the carrier and sidebands may be employed. Specification 229,732 is referred to.
