Abstract
571,580. Frequency modulation. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Dec. 15, 1943, No. 21000. Convention date, Dec. 15, 1942. [Class 40 (v)] A demodulator and limiter circuit for use in the reception of frequency-modulated waves comprises one or more frequency-discriminating networks associated with one or more superregenerative valve circuits. As shown, the incoming wave which may be reduced in frequency by heterodyning is applied by the tuned circuit 1 to a pair of tuned circuits 3, 4, one of which is tuned above and the other below the mean frequency of the applied wave. Each circuit 3, 4 is in back-coupling connection to a valve 5, 6, the oscillation being rendered intermittent by suitable proportioning of the grid leaks and condensers. The anodes are connected to opposite ends of a push-pull output transformer 10, or to a centre-tapped resistance, which feeds the demodulated signal to amplifiers &c. The valves 5, 6 are arranged to operate as rectifiers ; and the limiting action of the circuit eliminates amplitude-modulation effects as described in U.S.A. Specification 2,273.090.
