Abstract

Opening by cutting or tearing.-A can the wall of which is formed with a weakened strip 12, Fig. 2, adapted to be removed by a winding- key has a seamed cover provided with a double flange 14 depending below the lower edge of the strip and adapted to engage frictionally within the remaining part of the wall after the can is opened, the part 10<a> of the wall remaining attached to the cover and serving as a stop. The centre part 16 of the cover is raised to accommodate contents displaced by the flange 14. Fig. 4 shows a modified construction according to which the flange 14 is of single thickness but continued to form a raised centre portion, which is made of relatively greater height than in the previous construction.
