Abstract
247,701. Barbour, T., and Waddell, M. M. Dec. 22, 1924. Scutching-apparatus; heckling-machines. - An apparatus for dividing unscutched flax straw, or scutched flax, into bundles of a size suitable to be fed to a scutching-machine or a heckling-machine comprises a box A without ends in which the flax is laid and pressed down uniformly. A series of blades C are mounted in a frame c, which is moved along guides d by a screw c<3>, and are adapted to enter holes in the side of the box A and separate the flax into equal portions. The lid a' of the box is hinged, as is also the upper part c<1> of the frame c, and each blade is mounted on a hinged block c<2>, so that when the flax is being removed, each blade can be turned up to allow the portion of flax below it to be lifted out.
