Abstract

265,618. Heimlich, E. L. A., Feb. 5, 1927. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Feb. 7, 1927]. Scutching - apparatus. - In a machine for obtaining bast or bark from stalks, the stalk 5 is fed between belts 3 to a splitting tool 4, and the halves are thereafter guided over rotary cutters 7 which remove the wood, leaving the bark B to be guided along between bands 8 and rollers 11. The pulleys 1, 2 for the belts 3 are pulled together by a spring 16, for which rollers acting by gravity may be substituted. The pulleys 1<a>, 2a are kept at a constant distance from the tool 4 by mounting them on levers 19 controlled by a spring 24. The various rotary members are belt driven from an electric or internal-combustion motor 25.
