Abstract

267,763. Dehn, F. B., (Fabricord Incorporated Trustee). May 31, 1926. Breaking and scutching apparatus.-The fibrous skin is separated from the woody core of hemp and like plant stalks in the manner described in Specification 240,786 by means comprising a rotary disrupter 20 with sharp edged blades 23 which impart a succession of sharp quick blows to the ends of the stalks and break and knock away the woody core. The stalks are fed over a table 25 under a pivoted pressing plate 28 and are bent over the end of the table, where they are struck by the disrupter 20. The fibrous skin 24<1> is seized by the rollers 31, 32 and drawn forward to feed the stalk to the action of the disrupter 20. The roller 31 has a smooth surface and is mounted in spring controlled bearings. The roller 32 is grooved. The machine may be operated by a treadle the roller 32 and the disrupter 20 carrying sprockets which are engaged by a driving-chain.
