Abstract

128,732. Ransford, R. B., (Piat, J. T.). June 26, 1918. Breaking and scutching apparatus.-The leaves of aloes and other plants are fed between crushing-rollers 10, 11 to a, slowly rotating cylinder 3 round which they are passed by rollers 4, 5, and on the surface of which they are treated by a rapidly rotating beater 1. The treated leaves are then acted upon by two belts 6, 7 moving more rapidly than the material and carrying interengaging scraping-blades 9. The beater 1, cylinder 3, roller 5, and belts 6, 7 are adjustably mounted. The blades 9 are adjusted to brush the cylinder 3 and roller 5 to prevent leaves from lapping round them.
