Abstract

102,337. Gray, J. H., and Gray & Sons, G. June 20, 1916. Breaking and scutching apparatus.-In a machine of the type in which the flax &c. is passed through a series of slotted reciprocating plates each co-operating with a pair of stationary slotted plates, the reciprocating plates are driven at relatively different speeds. The reciprocating slotted plates A, B are suspended from levers a<4>, b<4> and are operated through levers a<5>. b<5> by eccentrics a<12>, b<12>, the latter of which is mounted on the main shaft b<13>, and the former of which is mounted on an adjustable stud a<13> and driven through gearing b<14>, D, a<15>, the gear D being a change-wheel. The material is passed through the machine by spring-pressed rollers C - - C<4>, which may be driven at uniform or at relatively different speeds.
