8409. Hardman, P. April 4. Carding-engines.-In apparatus of the type in which a stripping-cylinder is employed to coact with the licker-in, the stripping - cylinder is caused to rotate at a much lower speed than the licker-in and in such a direction that the adjacent surfaces of the two cylinders move in the same direction. The fleece 7, Fig. 2, is fed by the licker-in 3 to the main cylinder 1. The stripping-cylinder 8 is set close to the licker-in, and is provided with an oscillating stripping-comb 11. The comb is operated by an eccentric driven by a belt from the main cylinder, and the stripping-cylinder is preferably driven by a chain from the shaft of one of the feed-rolls.
