Carding-engines. --In a flat carding-engine, a driving-arrangement is provided which connects and drives the taker-in, doffer, and flats from the main cylinder and which, when the cylinder is reversed for grinding in the usual way, can be quickly changed over to give the correct grinding direction to the doffer and flats at their normal working speeds. In one method, a rope drive is provided which passes from the cylinder pulley A', round the taker-in pulley B', the pulley F for driving the flats, an idler pulley E, a pulley C for driving the doffer D, and thence back to the main cylinder pulley A' as shown. When the main cylinder is reversed for grinding, the drive between the main cylinder and the taker-in is merely uncrossed to drive the taker-in, doffer, and flats in the proper direction. In another method, the taker-in, doffer, and flats are connected by a rope or belt drive, and the main cylinder and the taker-in are connected by a separate crossed rope or belt. When the cylinder is reversed for grinding, it is only necessary to uncross the separate rope drive.
