Carding - engines.- A continuous fleece-dividing apparatus consists of two series of straps 4, 11, one passing round rollers 5, 3, 6, 8, 7, and the other round rollers 12, 5, 1, 14, 16. The roller 1 is grooved as shown in Fig. 2; the straps 11 pass round the flanges 10, and the straps 4 pass round small rollers 3 rotating between the flanges 10 and held in position by the rollers 5, 6. The roller 12 is grooved to receive the straps 11. The fleece coming from the doffing- cylinder 13 is carried to the position marked 17, where it is divided, one part passing between the straps 4 and rollers 3 and on to the rubbers 9, and the other part passing between the straps 11 and the roller 1 to the rubbers 15. The rollers 7, 16 act as tension rollers. This system may be employed with four sets of rubbers for the division of the fleece into four parts.
