Abstract
247,666. Jones, E. H. Nov. 21, 1924. Regulating transformers. - A regulating transformer for use in arc welding, arc lamp, or like circuits comprises primary and secondary coils mounted on a common core in such a manner as to permit initial adjustment of their relative positions according to the voltage required, whilst automatic regulation is effected in operation by relative movement of the coils due to magnetic reaction between them within limits dependent on the initial adjustment. According to Fig. 1, the initial adjustment is effected by movement of the coil B on the core A whilst the coil C is permitted to swing under magnetic reaction about a pivot c<1> between limits determined by an elliptical ring E engaging a pin c<3> on the coil and rotatable to vary the range of automatic adjustment as required. The movement of the coil C is controlled by a spring D, and the coil is carried by a bracket c<2> which may also be adjustable along the core. According to another form, one or both the coils may be slidably mounted on the core, one being fixed after initial adjustment, the other being free to slide within adjustable limits to provide automatic regulation. In a further modification, Fig. 3, the coils B<1>, C<2> are both free to swing under magnetic reaction, - provision being made for initially adjusting the distance between them.
