Abstract
247,071. Coslett, T. W. June 36, 1925. Coating.-In a process for treating iron and steel to prevent oxidation or rusting as described in Specifications 8667/06 and 28131/09, a boron compound is added to the solution referred to. care being taken to select a boron compound which will not affect detrimentally the coating produced as for example boric acid or a borate such as borax. In one example, 2 ozs. of pasty or concentrated acid zinc phosphate and 1¢ ozs. of powdered or crystalline boric acid are dissolved in one gallon of water. Before subjecting the articles to treatment, they are immersed for a short period in a hot or cold solution of boric acid. The formation of the deposit may be assisted by passing an electric current through the solution.
