Abstract
246,545. Ferranti, S. Z. de, and Ferranti, Ltd. Oct. 21, 1924. Transformers.-A high tension transformer is provided with a core the reluctance of which is made variable to enable idle current due to the capacity of the windings or of the load to be reduced. The core comprises a fixed yoke portion a and a movable yoke portion b adjustable in relation to the fixed portion by screws c engaging blocks d and rotated by a spindle l coupled to one of the screws at j. The two screws are provided with sprocket wheels h coupled for simultaneous operation by a chain the tension of which is adjusted by a jocket sprocket k. Where transformers coupled in cascade are employed, one or all the transformers in the series may be provided with cores of variable reluctance, and the operating spindles may be coupled by universal joints and a connecting rod to a hand-wheel located at a distance from the transformers.
