Abstract

166,276. British Thomson - Houston Co., Ltd., (General Electric Co.). Oct. 10, 1919. Transformers. - The secondary of a transformer for use in heating rivets, comprises pivoted members 6 connected together at one end by means of flexible conductors 12, and provided at the other end with electrodes 4, 5 between which and a separate conducting member 20 the rivets are held. The members 6, which may be of copper, pass through gaps in a shell-type core, and are operated by pedals 25 through rods 28, provided with insulated joints 30. Downward movement of the members is limited by a bar 31 engaging with the pedals. In modifications, a stationary winding, surrounding the central limb of the core, is connected in series with the movable members and flexible connections to form the secondary. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 4, two separate secondary windings are formed by two pairs of pivoted bars 41, 43 and 42, 44.
