Abstract
257,710. Owen, F. C. July 14, 1925. Transformers intended for supplying a substantially steady current to welding electrodes are provided with a primary winding comprising three coils 2, 3, 4 arranged one on each of three sides of a rectangular iron core 1, and with a secondary winding in two sections 10, 11 one of which embraces the intermediate primary coil 3. The secondary winding is provided with tappings connected as shown to two multiple way switches 14, 21, the arrangement being such that the welding electrode 17 may be connected in circuit with either a portion only of the secondary section 10 by placing the switch arms 15, 22 on the contacts 26, 20 respectively, or with any desired number of turns of the section 11 by placing the switch arms on the contact 24 and the appropriate tapping stud, or with the whole of the section 10 and any desired number of turns of the section 11 by placing the switch arm on the contact 20 and the appropriate tapping stud. The transformers may be oil-or aircooled, and are enclosed in wood, cast iron, steel, or aluminium cases.
