Abstract
571,871. Transformers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Dec. 14, 1943, No. 20913. Convention date, Dec. 14, 1942. [Class 38 (ii)] An on-load tap-changing arrangement for transformers comprises a pair of tap selectors 7, 8 connected through parallel paths, one of which includes an arcing contactor 9, to the line 12, and a reversing switch 13, whereby the contactor may be transferred from the circuit associated with one of the tap selectors to the circuit associated with the other. The tap selectors 7, 8 and reversing switch 13, together with current-limiting chokes 14, are disposed in the transformer tank 2, while the arcing contactor 9 is disposed outside at the top of an insulating bushing 10 housing the concentric conductors 15, 16 as in Specification 546,153. In the present arrangement, however, the bushing insulator 10 also serves for the line terminal 12. The tap selectors, reversing- switch and arcing contactor are mechanically interconnected for actuation in the required sequence by a motor 23 which may be automatically controlled by a voltage-responsive relay 24 connected either across one of the main windings or across a tertiary winding 5.
