Abstract

Grates.-In a travelling grate comprising groups of firebars linked together, the outer bars 29 of each group, Figs. 4 and 6, are each formed with a central portion of triangular cross-section and are arranged with their apices. oppositely disposed, while the intermediate bars 28 have their central portions triangular in cross-section and so arranged as to provide upwardly-tapering spaces 31 for the admission of steam and air between the bars. The bars of each group are provided at the ends with projections 26 and recesses 27 to receive pins 25. Spaces for the admission of air are also provided at 32, 33. Transverse air channels 14, Figs. 7 and 8, are arranged beneath the upper run of the grate, the sides of the channels being provided at their upper edges with cupped extensions 15 for the reception of rollers 16 forming bearings for the grate-bars. Air is supplied to the channels through detachable tubes 19 by inducing-jets of steam or air from nozzles 20. The grate is supported on multi-sided drums carried by a removable frame.
