[Class 51 (i).] In a grate comprising detachable fire-carrying members supported on plate carriers rigidly secured together in groups such as described in Specification 248,923, [Class 51 (i), Furnaces and kilns, Combustion apparatus of], the endplates of adjacent groups of plate carriers e, Fig. 5, are spaced by the head i of the securing bolt h of one group contacting with the projecting bolt end of an adjacent group. Slots c in the webs b of the fire-carrying members a, Fig. 4, engage with the heads of the bolts h and the nuts thereon. Grooves or corrugations are provided on the inner surfaces of the fire-carrying members a or on the upper edge of the plate carriers e to permit the circulation of air. A depending portion d of the member a engages with the supporting bar.
