Sliding valves; wedging or jamming. - The parallel slide stop valve of the parent Specification is modified by connecting the eccentric bodies 2, 4, 5, Fig. 1, to the valve spindle 1 by a lost-motion device, such as keys 10 and arcuate grooves 11, Figs. 2 and 8, the initial free rotation of the valve spindle being utilized for operating a bye-pass valve device 13 to give a small advance flow for balancing the pressures on opposite sides of the valve, warming up the pipe, and facilitating the opening of the valve. The rectangular supporting-frames 12 of the bye-pass valves 13 are traversed and operated by a flattened portion of the valve spindle.
