Openwork fabrics; figured fabrics; ground weaves.-The warp threads 5 are passed through the eyes 9, 8 of stationary yarn guides 1, and are operated as shown by Figs. 4, 5, 7 and 10 to form loops through which a weft 3 is inserted mechanically or by hand, by a shuttle or hook. Two warp threads may be inserted into each guide as shown in Fig. 14. A warp thread may be moved from one side of a guide to the other by means of a needle or by hand &c. The completed stitches are moved out of the guides by a reed. Fig. 22 shows one form of fabric produced and Fig. 23 shows the form the fabric finally assumes owing to the torsions of the various threads.
