Abstract
273,332. Nicolet, W. June 28, 1926, [Convention date]. Addition to 262,962. Selvages, special fabrics with. - Relates to the method of of weaving described in the parent Specification wherein the warp threads pass through the holes in oppositelymoving combs 5, 7 and are thereby formed into two sheds, into which sheds wefts are passed simultaneously or nearly so, the front weft being beaten up first, whereupon the warp threads are moved and recrossed and then the rear weft is beaten up. In order that an ordinary 1 : 1 selvage may be formed, weft from one bobbin is taken alternately into the front and the rear shed and when the weft loop has been formed the weft is cut. Several bobbins may be used. The weft 9 may be introduced from the bobbin 33 into the rear and permanently open shed by a weft needle 20 furnished with an eye, whilst the weft is moved into the front shed by weft needles 21<a>, 21b situated at opposite sides of the fabric, acting alternately and furnished with grippers. When the eye of the weft needle is at the left, the needle 21a moves through the crossed front shed and its gripper seizes the weft, which is thereupon cut between the gripper and the selvage by a cutter 34. The needle then returns taking the gripped weft with it, and the weft thereby inserted into the crossed front shed is beaten up. At the same time the combs move apart and the inserted weft is thus incorporated in the fabric. Meanwhile the needle 20 moves from the position shown in Fig. 1 to that shown in Fig. 2 and inserts a weft into the rear open shed. A laterally disposed rocking hook 35 then pulls this weft into the path of the reed whereby it is beaten up, the combs crossing again to incorporate this weft and form a front crossed shed again. Afterwards the weft is gripped and inserted by the needle 21b and so on. The fabric produced is illustrated. Two weft bobbins may be used, two alternately operating weft needles 20 being used in the rear open shed. The fabric produced in this instance is shown in Fig. 3.
