Abstract

242,506. Thomas, W., and Hawes, M. March 13, 1925. Pickling.-A pickling solution for metal plates is prepared by diluting ordinary commercial sulphuric acid and then adding sodium chloride and metallic zinc, the latter being added to bring about a gentle seething of the solutions for about an hour. The solution is then run off into another receptacle for cooling and then transferred to a third receptacle to clarify, being left there for about three or four days. The plates in suitable racks are immersed in the solution so obtained maintained at a temperature of about 40‹ C. In an example, 1 part of water is added to 0.58 parts of sulphuric acid and 0.25 parts of sodium chloride and 0.20 parts of zinc added.
