Abstract

Chromate or bichromate of sodium or potassium is treated with sulphuric or other acid to give a solution of chromic acid. The latter is freed from the alkali salt present by cooling to 0 DEG F. and separating the resulting crystals preferably by centrifugal action. The chromic acid, on saturating with sulphur dioxide, gives a chromic sulphate solution. The alkali salt may be removed from the extractor by dissolving the crystals in water.
