Vehicle and like lamps.-In a vehicle or like lamp the horizontal section of the reflector is an ellipse 5 having foci at 2, 3 and the central vertical seotion of the lower portion is a parabola 4 having its focus at 2. The upper portion may be similar to the lower portion but is preferably in the form of a hemi-ellipsoid 1 having foci at 2, 3, so that, with a source of light at 2, all rays pass out through a narrow vertical slot 29. This slot is formed by cutting the reflector across a transverse plane containing the vertical line 3, 51 and is covered with plain glass or a lens. When it is desired to reduce the divergence of the beam the focus 2 is brought nearer the vertex 32 by cutting away the back portion of the reflector and introducing a supplementary reflector 40. The latter is preferably paraboloidal having its focus at 2 and is joined to the lower portion along lines 41, 42 passing through the vertical line 3, 51.
