Abstract

Lenses.-In vehicular lamps, the illuminant is placed between the upper and lower halves or portions A, D of the lens, the upper half or portion A. being positioned or constructed so that the light beam therefrom is downwardly directed. The curved surface G of each portion is silvered or is covered by a metal reflector, and the adjacent faces of the two portions of the lens may be spaced apart or formed with grooves for the reception of the illuminant, or the two portions may be in one piece with a hole H, Fig. 8, for the reception of the illuminant, the hole H having, in some cases, a bull's-eye in the front. In one, form, the front B, Fig. 1, of the upper portion A is to the rear of the front face C of the lower portion D. In a second form, a planoconvex or double-convex lens is arranged in front of the upper portion, or the upper portion is formed with a curved front face. In a third form, the front faces of the portions A, D of the lens are in the same plane and the curved surface of the upper portion is an ellipse and the curved surface of the lower portion is a parabola. The illuminant may be adjusted axially or vertically.
