Lenses. - A lens for a vehicle lamp comprises upper and lower series of concentric arcuate prisms 1, 1 separated by a horizontal zone 2 and bounded by a margin 3. Both series of prisms have their bases directed downwardly and they may have a common centre such as one situated on the horizontal diameter of the lens, or they may have centres situated on the upper and lower margins respectively of the zone 2. The inclined surfaces of some or all of the prisms 1 preferably have curved surfaces and the prisms may have varying deflecting powers. Both faces of the lens may be prismatic or all the prisms may be placed on the inner face, the outer face being either plain or fluted, crinkled, ground or otherwise made diffusing. The zone 2 may be formed of plain glass or a part of the whole of this zone may be in the form of one or more horizontal prisms. The margin 3 may be ground, stippled, ribbed, frosted or otherwise provided with a roughened surface and made diffusing.
