Abstract

Springs, arrangement of; guiding vertical play; frame construction.-The body of a perambulator &c. is supported on the axle by means of equal and parallel links hinged to the body and to the wheel axles. As shown, the body 8 is connected to the axles 3 by two pairs of links 5 comprising metal strips hinged to plates 6 secured to the body and bent to surround the axles. Movement of the body is controlled by one or more springs 9, 9<a>, one or more snubbing strips 10 being provided. The springs, which may be coil or leaf springs, may be arranged between the body and upstanding handle member as shown, or, between the body and part 1 of the frame, or, coiled torsion springe may be embodied in the hinged connection between the links and axles. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 7, the link 5 is connected by a tension spring 19 to a projection rigid with the rail 1, or by a compression spring 20 to the rail 1. The axles 3 are passed through ears 4<b> of split lugs 4, Fig. 2, secured on the rails 1 by nuts 4<d> which clamp the ears 4<b> against shoulders formed by reducing the ends of the axles. The snubbing strips may be replaced by springs acting in opposition to the springs 9, 9<a>.
