Abstract

In the production of the products referred to in Specifications 218,679 and 218,680, the autolysis is effected in the presence of non-miscible antiseptics. The antiseptics are ultimately removed by evaporation in vacuo or by passing steam through the product. As an example, chloroform and toluene are added to crushed fish and the mixture stirred and the temperature is maintained at 36-40 DEG C. for about eight days, additional viscera being added during autolysis.ALSO:In the production of oils and fats from yeast, fish, or other vegetable and animal matters as described in Specifications 218,679 and 218,680, the autolysis is effected in the presence of non-miscible antiseptics, one or more having a density negative and one or more a density positive relatively to the mass, the total amount of antiseptic being not substantially less than 1 per cent of materially more than 3 per cent. The antiseptics are ultimately removed by evaporation in vacuo or by passing steam through the product. As an example, 10 parts by weight of chloroform and 10 parts by weight of toluene are added to 1000 parts by weight of crushed fish, and the mixture is stirred at 36-40 DEG C. for about eight days, additional viscera, amounting to 2 per cent to 10 per cent of the weight of the fish, being added during autolysis. The process after autolysis proceeds as described in Specifications 218,679 and 218,680.
