439,532. Obtaining fibres from skins. ELKINGTON, H. D., 20, Holborn, London.- (Freudenberg Ges., C.; Weinheim, Baden, Germany) Nov. 1, 1934, No. 31351. [Class 120 (i)] [See also Group VIII] Fibres or fibrous material are obtained from skin substances in a stable and transportable condition by dehydrating the mechanically shredded substance with organic liquids miscible with water and then drying. Suitable liquids are alcohol and acetone. In addition to organic liquids the material may be treated with tanning or pseudo tanning agents. Other agents which improve the product may be added in the course of manufacture, e.g. bases, salts, fats, drying or non- drying oils, dyestuffs, wetting or softening agents.
