Abstract

For removing nicotine, tobacco is treated with an organic solvent such as ether, the nicotine is removed from the extract with an acid aqueous washing liquid which is distilled in steam carrying over any aromatic substances. The latter are recovered from the distillate by shaking with the original solvent and returned to the tobacco.
